Craig Alan : POPULUS: Union Square - San Francisco
Gefen Gallery is pleased to present Populus, an exhibition of American artist Craig Alan’s most notable series of work.
Craig Alan is an internationally acclaimed contemporary artist. After formal art schooling and professional work amongst a cohort of artists, Alan found inspiration for his most notable series of work, Populus. He was in Orange Beach, Alabama, standing on a balcony overlooking the shore, when he noticed the guests of a wedding party down below appeared to form the shape of an eye. From this revelation, along with his rich imagination and artistic prowess, Alan created a unique style combining pop art, surrealism, and abstract expressionism.
His dreamlike environments invite the viewer to explore the meaning within his works- whether that be by following the swarming, frenetic energy of the tiny figures, or taking a step back to see what big picture his liminal space has created.
