Dario Del Toro was born in Brazil. He is a self-taught painter whose career began in the favelas, painting graffiti and street art. He channels inspiration from popular culture and the vibrant bossa nova music scene, as well as artists like Romero Britto. Dario's artwork attempts to elevate even the most mundane of subject matters.
His current series, entitled “Nova”, ranges in subject matter from Stewie Griffin of Family Guy to anthropomorphic portraits of animals. Often the subject is reimagined as various character from pop culture such as Scarface or Hugh Hughes.
He utilizes a special technique of collaging backgrounds from various clippings behind his acrylic paintings. He then adds embellished details with metal flakes before sealing the entire piece with a coating of resin.
